Claire Whyte of Hometrain has developed "Learning Together" a set of Home Tuition work books which include materials to help children learning from home to develop language, communication and a wide range of essential skills. As the website says "You won't have to look for ideas and resources again! Learning Together contains week-by-week lesson plans, how to teach the learning objectives, and all the fun teaching resources you need every week!"
It is very step by step oriented and you can pace it according to how quickly your child learns and how many steps you need to teach them. There are self assessment charts in the books, and an additional supplement called "Ten Ways to teach Anything" that can help you develop the right approach to suit your child.
I was especially impressed with the price. Less than €400 for the full set of 48 lessons, including online support (answers within 24 hours). I loaned it to one of my Angels, who used to tutor for us to get her opinion, and she hasn't given it back yet! She was very impressed at how comprehensive it is, especially considering the cost.
So basically you could afford to buy it as soon as you are ready to start a home program, with or without the Home Tuition Grant. (which can sometimes take a little while). Of course it is no substitute for a place in a recognised ABA school with qualified supervision. But it is a very good place to start.

The Hometrain 'Learning Together' lesson plan set is a fantastic resource for any parent who wants to work with their special child. The programme is so well laid out with lots of teaching tips to help along the way. The more I read through each of the weekly lesson plans the more excited I am by how good the programme is. How to present the work in order to teach the child as presented in each of the weekly lesson plans is exactly the method any home tutor would use. The fact that the skills and language selected for development with the child follow closely what is recommended by ABLSS gives this programme great credence. ABLLS is a widely used and internationally recognised tool for assessment, curriculum guide, and skills tracking for children with communication difficulties and language delay. Having the resources included is a huge plus. I love the way the additional activities, songs and other ideas like the "All About Me" (Communication book) all come together so well within each week's lesson plan. As a home tutor I will be using the programme myself to save time with planning.

"As parents we see the disability and sometimes lose sight of the capabilities of the children. 'Learning Together' shows us as parents that we are all capable of teaching our children."

"Our son throughly enjoyed playing 'Hello' and 'How Are You' was a great progression. It was more challenging but, still easy enough for him to navigate through and play by himself with minimum assistance from us."
"Our son has really benefited from the How are You game. It explores emotions and social situations in a language that he can understand as well as fun for him to play."
Mairead - Parent and teacher.
"My 4yr old son, Fergus attended the 'Hello' summer group and really enjoyed it. He doesn't have many words but lately has started trying new words. He says 'Hello' and does the Lamh for it when he meets some one (with a bit of prompting from me!). He also enjoys the CD-Rom 'Hello'."
Eleanor Cosgrove - Parent.
"Ben really enjoyed the CD rom and asked repeatedly for more and more, it is a great activity for the two of us to do and we even got his 7yr old brother to sit down and he enjoyed it as well - especially listening to the different voices of the children."
Cora McCann - Parent.
"The topics in Hello are great, and John is answering the questions. Thank you for making a game that is relevant to my son's needs, I would reccommend it to anyone who's child needs help with social skills!"
Amanda Gregory, Derby, England.
